April 6, 2018 -- Heights alumni, staff and friends are invited to an evening remembering and celebrating decades of impactful Holocaust Education at Cleveland Heights High School. Many Heights High students have learned with and been inspired by educators such as Dr. Latrice Rabinsky, Sol Factor, Adrienne Yelsky and Mark Sack. Join them, along with other graduates and supporters of the program, on Monday, April 16 for an innovative Holocaust education performance format called Testimony Theater. It's free and open to the public.

Innovation and tradition are the hallmarks of Holocaust education at Heights. In years past, Heights students participated in such unique experiences as the Journey of Conscience to Poland and Israel; traveled to hear speakers like Elie Wiesel; and participated in Conferences of Holocaust Survivors.

More recently, Heights High students in the Lessons of the Holocaust class and the Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) have traveled to Detroit to visit the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History and the Holocaust Memorial Museum, to DC’s United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the new Museum of African American History and Culture. These trips are supported by the Holocaust Education Fund at the Heights Schools Foundation – a fund that accepts donations all year, and supports experiences that change perspectives and open minds.

On one recent trip to Detroit, the students met with Paula, an 89-year-old Holocaust survivor who talked about her life as a teen in a ghetto and in a Nazi labor camp. Paula emphasized that citizens must care for each other and not allow hate and discrimination to cause pain and suffering. “I hope that your visit to the Holocaust Center will help you to speak out against injustice when you see it,” she said. “I am counting on you to make a better future.” This is the kind of learning that takes place thanks to generous donations.

The April 16 Testimony Theater performance will include re-telling of Holocaust Survivor stories, including the story of Erika (Taubner) Gold, Heights High graduate, Class of 1952.

All donations made at the event directly benefit the Holocaust Education Fund of the Heights School Foundation
