The idea for the playdates started with a third-grader who mentioned that he meets students from area CH-UH schools through sporting and summer activities. However, since the students don’t go to his home school, he wished for a way he could see his friends from across the district. It got parents thinking and the PTA Council decided to schedule the districtwide playdates at the seven elementary schools.

“We wanted to get the play dates going in the spring and over the summer to help incoming kindergartners and elementary families who move in over the summer, have an easier transition by making some friends before school starts,” said Jodi Sourini, PTA President of Gearity Elementary.

She added as families meet other families in the district, the likelihood for them to stay is greater if they have friends. “We want CH-UH families to be comfortable at all our schools.”

Other goals for the playdates are:
  • For parents -- to help build a sense of community across the district. Get to meet other parents who use and support our public schools.
  • For children and parents -- coming together at one playground each month and rotating amongst our schools will create a visible presence in the community that many families are attending our public schools.
