The Facts about Ebola

In response to the recent discovery that the latest diagnosed Ebola patient visited the area, we have been in contact with the Cuyahoga County Public Health Department for continued direction and guidance.

The safety and health of our students and staff continues to be a top concern in our District and given all the media coverage, we understand there are concerns and questions. We will continue to communicate any information that is pertinent to our District as it becomes available from our County Health Department. We are confident our County Health Department is closely monitoring the situation and will keep us informed of any updates.

Quick facts about Ebola from the CDC:

-        You can’t get Ebola through air.

-        You can’t get Ebola through water.

-        You can’t get Ebola through food.

You can only get Ebola from:

  •         Touching body fluids of a person who is sick with Ebola.

The risk of being exposed is extremely low unless a person has direct unprotected contact with the body fluids of a person (like urine, saliva, feces, vomit, sweat, and semen) who is sick with Ebola.

Symptoms of Ebola include

•        Fever (greater than 38.6°C or 101.5°F)

•        Severe headache

•        Muscle pain

•        Weakness

•        Diarrhea

•        Vomiting

•        Abdominal (stomach) pain

•        Unexplained hemorrhage (bleeding or bruising)

*Immediately seek medical attention if feel you’ve been exposed or are experiencing any of the listed symptoms.
