Rox Mid Musicians Honored for Talent and Character

June 16, 2016 -- Roxboro Middle School student musicians showed their abilities, not only in music performance but also in the way they carried themselves on Saturday, May 21 at the Music in the Parks competition in Sandusky, Ohio.

The Esprit de Corps was awarded to Roxboro Middle School's orchestra, band and choir because they demonstrated proper social behavior as well as musical behavior and encouragement. Evaluation took place from arrival at the festival site to the awards presentation.

"We are so proud of our talented youth who took home the coveted Espirit de Corps award," said Mrs. Nicole Clouser, instrumental music instructor at Rox Mid. "They possessed the qualities of highly successful people and were sensitive to the feelings of others. They applauded accomplishments no matter if by one’s own school or another school."

Adjudicated performances were held at Perkins Middle and Perkins High School, where each group performed for two judges. Ratings were based on the ensemble's tone, articulations, intonation, stylistic interpretation and balance. After the performances, students headed to Cedar Point where they rollicked in the park, riding roller coasters and playing games. Students attended the Music in the Parks awards ceremony held in the park. This ceremony is action packed with students cheering on groups who came from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Indiana to participate. Parents and chaperones attended to make the day run smoothly.

At the contest, Roxboro's groups gave impressive performances and placed as follows:

Roxboro Chamber Orchestra, Superior, 1st Place

Roxboro Middle School String Orchestra, Superior, 2nd Place

Roxboro Chamber Singers, Excellent, 3rd Place

Roxboro Middle School Band, Excellent, 6th Place

Mrs. Clouser, Mr. Ross and Mr. Hungerford extend congratulations to the students on their hard work and ratings. (They also want to inform the students of their own accomplishments that day - they rode the GateKeeper, Millennium Force, the Magnum and the Iron Dragon roller coasters!)
