Monticello 7th Grader is Kid Reporter for National Publication

Monticello Middle School student Maple Buescher is one of 10 Kid Reporters nationwide for 'Time for Kids', a weekly classroom publication and a division of 'Time Magazine'.

As a Kid Reporter, Maple will have the opportunity to conduct interviews and write articles that may appear in the print edition or website of Time for Kids, (www.timeforkids.com), during the 2015-16 school year. Many Cleveland Heights-University Heights school teachers and teachers across the country use “Time for Kids” in their classroom.

To be selected, Maple went through an application process that included writing two original news stories that were judged by a panel of journalists. Her first story was about the Little Free Library movement, where miniature libraries are placed in communities and neighborhoods for readers to share books.

She was then named one of 24 finalists, and had to submit a second article, along with a video of herself explaining why she wanted the job. She wrote about the Republican National Convention coming to Cleveland in 2016, and interviewed representatives from the City of Cleveland, the Republican Parties of Cuyahoga County and Ohio, Destination Cleveland, and Quicken Loans Arena.

Maple got the news on August 18 that she was chosen as one of the 10 Kid Reporters. She will hold this position from September 2015 – August 2016, and will have the opportunity to report for the TIME for Kids print and online editions.
