On January 29, 2015, author Sharon G. Flake visited Monticello. She gave an inspiring message to students during an all-school assembly. Flake shared her story with students and left them with the inspirational message that it is not necessary to be perfect in order to reach your dreams. Before she took the stage, she circulated among the students answering questions, having conversations, and signing autographs. 

After the assembly, Flake moved to the media center where she posed for pictures and signed copies of her books for students and staff. The book signing was followed by a lunch with selected students. Students enjoyed a delicious Mexican Feast and had the opportunity to talk with the author and ask her questions. 

The day was a huge success. Thank you to Yolanda Harris, 6th grade ELA teacher for spearheading this event.
