Salsa Dancing for Cinco de Mayo

Students learn to salsa dancing

May 21, 2018 -- Heights High Spanish classes celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Salsa Dancing. Olivia Fatica’s Spanish language and culture students learned the basic Salsa steps from Rob and Amy, professional dancers with Cleveland Swing and Salsa.

Cinco de Mayo is a remembrance day, also called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla. The holiday commemorates the day that a small Mexican army defeated the French army in 1862.

Many Americans think that May 5 is the Mexican Independence day, but that is actually September 16.

“The students had fun and learned more about Mexican history,” said Ms. Fatica. “And, who doesn’t love Salsa Dancing!”
