Feb. 22, 2019 -- Junior Christian Green is a member of the Heights High Students of Promise and was selected by the program’s director, Bob Ivory, to attend the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday Breakfast Celebration on January 21. The event is chaired by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and is hosted by the Cleveland Dr. MLK Scholarship Committee.

Each year the committee hosts the breakfast event with several guest speakers. The funds raised from the event are used for college scholarships for local high school students.

“I especially liked that so many people continue to work for Dr. King’s goals. Talking to Dr. Moss and Reverend Ribbins was cool.” said Christian. “It was a real honor to have been invited.”

Mr. Ivory was looking forward to introducing Christian to several of the people at the breakfast. “Something that was fun at the event was that Christian knew many of the people there and introduced me to several people.”

“I’m very proud of Christian, he is becoming a strong leader in the Students of Promise program and shows a zeal for learning,” said Mr. Ivory. Christian is also a member of the Heights High wrestling team.

The mission of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Scholarship Committee is to celebrate the life, work and legacy of Dr. King.

Students of Promise is a program aimed at closing the achievement gap and operates in four other school districts: East Cleveland, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, and Warrensville Heights. Erin Mims is the coordinator at Heights High
