Marketing Student Wins First Place at DECA Competition

Christian Hall

Feb. 13, 2019 -- Heights High School sophomore Christian Hall placed first in the Personal Financial Literacy section of the District 8 DECA winter competitions at the Tri-C East Corporate College on February 1. He is enrolled in the Marketing and Management Program.

Christian was one of over 300 DECA members from local high schools competing for the chance to compete at the state and national level.

As a first place winner, Christian will advance to the state competition in Columbus, Ohio and the National DECA competition in Orlando, Florida. His expenses for both competitions will be provided by a generous grant from AT&T.

The schools attending local competition were: Auburn Career Center, Bedford High School, Jane Addams Business Careers Center, Mentor High School, Maple Heights High School, Normandy High School, Parma Senior High School, Strongsville High School, Valley Forge High School, and Willoughby – Eastlake Career Academy.
DECA's flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA's competitive events contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA's industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism.
Sarah Parker is the Heights High Marketing and Management teacher.
