Community Invited to Heights Family Resource Center Opening May 17

Apr. 15, 2024 -- The community is invited to celebrate the launch of the District’s new Heights Family Resource Center on May 17 from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Delisle Options Center.

The idea for the Heights Family Resource Center (HFRC) came initially from the district’s participation in the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Collaborative Network and the Community Learning Center (CLC) Collaborative. District staff visited FRCs to learn about their goals, their partnerships, and the needs that can be met through them.

The mission of the HFRC is to provide services, support, and activities that educate, develop skills, and promote health and well-being in order to improve the lives of students and families in the CH-UH Schools. In partnership with families and community-based organizations, the HFRC will become a welcoming hub for the community.

A team made up of Lisa Hunt, Family Engagement Specialist; Nancy Peppler, Supervisor of Community and School Partnerships; Sabrina Ollie, CLC Organizer at Oxford Elementary; and Tenille Threatt, CLC Organizer at Noble Elementary will operate the HFRC.

In addition to family support programming, CH-UH Schools families will be able to access the following items at no cost:

  • Clothing
  • Non-perishable food
  • Household cleaning supplies
  • Sanitary and personal hygiene products
  • Infant care items (e.g. diapers and formula)
  • School supplies

Currently, the HFRC is only accepting monetary donations, which will be used to purchase new items to supplement the current inventory. After the facility opens, the District will regularly assess need and usage and will announce when the HFRC can begin accepting additional in-kind item donations.

All donations to the Family Resource Center are facilitated by the Heights Schools Foundation. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can do so here or by sending a check to the Heights Schools Foundation (please indicate that the donation is for the HFRC):

The event on May 17 will include a ribbon cutting, walkthrough of the facility, and light refreshments. Please RSVP here. A larger grand opening event is being planned for August ahead of the 2024-2025 school year, at which time future programming schedules and additional plans will be shared.
