"Big Shout out to Sarah Perz and Jessica Friedland, the art teachers at Boulevard and Fairfax as well as anybody instrumental in making the mural painting at the corner of meadowbrook and lee a reality. Your time and energy does not go unnoticed or unappreciated! I am happy to work alongside one of you and happy my own students had the other as a teacher. When our kids work together to make their community a better, brighter place it's a WIN all around!"

"Shout out to Doris Mapson and Carolyn Jackson-Wilson (both bus drivers/dispatchers). They do a fabulous job keeping the drivers informed and up to date during our daily driving schedule. Their work day starts at 5:30 a.m. They are dealing with drivers and their schedules, parents, administrative staff, as well as private school staff. I want them to know on behalf of all transportation staff they are greatly appreciated."

"My painfully shy son had his packed lunch ruined today by someone's drink spilled all over it. Due to his shyness, he has never bought hot lunch and did not choose that as an option today when his lunch was ruined. He sat quietly at lunch and just didn't eat. When he got to his next class, math, a student he is not great friends with but they are friendly, went right up to the teacher and told her that Aiden didn't get to eat today. Because again, he would not have told anyone because he is so shy and this kid knew that. The teacher went to the vending machine and bought him crackers and also gave him part of her lunch. I am so touched that a teacher like Nancy MacDonald cares enough about my kid to remedy the situation and help him out. I was also touched that the boy who told the teacher took the time to care about someone else's feelings and needs. This could have easily gone unnoticed and pushed aside but it wasn't and that is why I love Nancy MacDonald. She cares about the whole student and treats them all with love and respect."

"I wanted to give a shout out to Ms. Costanzo, vocal teacher at Boulevard. This past winter concert was by far the best vocal concert I have seen in our 8 years at Boulevard. The children presented several pieces involving singing in rounds, instruments and dance and the songs had choreography as well. They were so well prepared. Sadly, it is our last year in elementary school but was glad we got at least one year with Ms. Costanzo."

Ms. Durant, Ms. Murray, Ms. Smith, Mrs. Carter and Ms. Mimi are a great support system for my daughter. She enjoys the time she spends with them and they are always willing to take the time to lend a hand. We are truly grateful."

"Bravo to the music department students and their teachers at the high school. Every time we attend a performance, it is easy to forget that we are watching high school students. They do such a great job...from the way they come onto the stage, the way they follow the director and the way they play and sing, they are just great. The Barbershoppers are especially fantastic! Thanks to all."

"Mrs. Salih at Monticello Middle School has done a wonderful job taking over while Ms. Moore is unable to be with us. She continues to show she cares about her students and her staff. She should be applauded by the CHUH administrators for the job she is doing. And a big thank you to Mrs. Black for coming into Monticello and being a great support to teachers and a caring presence while she is needed."

"The fifth grade teaching team at Fairfax (Mr. Gee, Mrs. MacDonald and Mrs. Christy) is so strong! I had my conference yesterday and it was the most thorough yet. The strong communication between these three teachers is phenomenal and they clearly know each kiddo in a deep and nuanced way. I'm so grateful!"

"To the Communication Department - Scott Wortman, Cathan Bricker and Joy Henderson, for a splendid job in keeping the website updated. I check the website almost every morning to keep current with what is happening in our district. Since I work at the Board of Education building, I am not exposed to everything our schools are doing. The article this morning about student James Greene from Fairfax brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart. Great job Mr. Greene. Keep up the good work! Kudos to the staff at Fairfax as well!

"As I sit here in Guyana serving in the Peace Corps, my thoughts often go to my 2 nieces, Hailley and Hallee Turner, who are now seniors at Heights. This is the first time in their lives that I have been away, and I miss them dearly. No orchestra performances to see Hailley on her violin, no football games to see the girls on their trumpets. Who would have thought I would miss those things? Ladies, as you go through your senior year, know that Auntie Crystal's love and support is still with you. Do your best at all times and never give up. Love you both to pieces, Auntie Crystal. See you at graduation!"

"This year at Heights High School, I have goals to make. This school year, I’m not playing any games. I want to stay on my goals during my 11th grade year. And I want to say thanks to the best teacher I had during my freshman year - Ms. Kaye. This great teacher has been there for me when I needed help with anything. And I also want to thank retired social worker Mrs. Lash. She is the best social worker ever. And, I didn’t forget Mrs. Yoo. Thanks for everything. During my 11th grade year, I’m going to work really hard and make my family, friends and my teachers proud of me. I want to see myself succeed at the end of my 11th grade year."

You gave her life back and the love of learning. She never did poorly, but lost her enthusiasm in 1st grade and because of you she was excited to learn again. We particularly want to thank Dr. Donna Feldman, who was Emily's English teacher her sophomore and senior years. She really helped Emily improve her writing skills, and met with her many times outside of class to review her college application essays. She has also agreed to be her Senior Project advisor. Thank you, Dr. Feldman, for giving so much of your time to your students!"

You are welcoming, supportive, talented, and pretty darn funny. You have officially ruined it for every other assignment. In no other district or department (and I have had some really great gigs) have I seen your equal. The group assembled here is truly one from the textbooks. "I want to thank the custodial staff at Monticello. Every last one of them is always so willing to help; early in the morning, late in the evening, and even on Saturdays. They know the ins and outs of the building and keep it impressively clean all day (even with the sloppy salty weather). I should add that the office staff (Ms. Lightfoot, Ms. Wheeler and Ms. Blockson) are amazing, along with the security staff. For a parent I spend a fair amount of time at Monticello, and from my perspective there is a real team spirit and genuine care for our kids."

Hello all, You all know me by now to realize I just can't let a moment like this morning go by without acknowledgement...There aren't words to describe what we witnessed, but that doesn't stop me from trying to find some words. The level of intensity that was expressed and felt during the reentry presentation was beyond amazement. It was a huge reminder to us all that this work COUNTS! Thank you to all of you for your efforts and belief about helping kids. I, for one, believe you did! This email was sent to the Options team after concluding the second round of the Odyssey program. "My son's school, Fairfax, had a dollar dance on Friday. Each student was asked to bring $1 to contribute to a fundraiser and they could participate in the dance. I know, it sounds exclusionary, but wait. Many teachers and students gave an extra $1 so that kids who didn't have a $1 could participate. No one was left out. But this story stole my heart. A student in my son's class had extra money and donated one of his dollars to another student, so he could go to the dance. I will not name names, so that no one is embarrassed. This may sound like a kind story, but you don't know the half of it. The student who gave the extra dollar, well to be honest, isn't the best student and doesn't have the best reputation. He is a 'trouble maker' as most students label him. The student he gave the dollar to was not his friend, as far as talking to him, playing with him at recess or talking to him at lunch. Honestly, there have probably been days that he picked on him. This student is very shy, feels like everyone picks on him and tells me often 'I have no friends.' Well, last Friday, he had a great friend! Two kids that most likely will never be great friends, but they will always remember what they did for each other. One gave and one was so happy to receive. My son witnessed all of this and was so proud to share this story with me. I believe that my son is now a better person, because he saw kindness in an unlikely person. These are the stories that make me love the community I live in. Thank you child anonymous for your kindness. You have no idea how much your actions affected many. Don't worry, I'll tell you in private, after break."

These eighth grade students assist in my classroom after school once a week by grading and filing papers, organizing supplies and cleaning desktops. I appreciate the opportunity to spend time with them. But mostly it's everyone that does their job every day so that CHUH kids get the best opportunity to be the best they can be! Now my personal shout outs are to Ms. Moore (love her), Monticello Principal. You came into a tough situation and each day it only gets better! Patrick (sign language teacher and neighbor) thank you for helping my daughter to be passionate about something!Canterbury staff: I don't know where my kids would be without you. What you all do each day is nothing short of amazing. CHUH preschool - for anyone who didn't know our preschool is top-rated, it really prepares our kids for 21st century learning. I'd like to thank my mother, Jacqueline D Blockson for not only being a great mommy, but also for showing me how to care for individuals the way you do! I know you have been a great asset to the high school; your many years there have been greatly appreciated. You have many fans in the Cleveland Heights area!

I would like to acknowledge Jackie Wheeler and Charlene Lightfoot! You two welcomed me into your Monticello family and into your hearts in 2012. You taught me a lot and passed down all your professional wisdom ;-) I miss you guys! And everyone at Monticello is lucky to have you two!

"I'm so happy to be a part of the Boulevard Elementary School family. My two children have two wonderful teachers. Mrs. Reynolds and I would like to welcome Ms. Virant to Boulevard Elementary. And the second grade teacher, Mrs. Preston, I enjoy how you show enthusiasm for teaching and help the students get excited about learning. My son was so worried about the first day of second grade, but now he gets excited about second grade and learning and wants his classmates to be on good behavior as well. My son has a good heart and I'm sure the teachers love having him. I like this school and the teachers and the parents are all very supportive of each other. I hope the new parents and students feel just as welcome here."

"I want to praise John Miller a 10th grader at Heights. Besides being a fine young man, John happens to be on the football team. I work with his mother at Gearity and he is always respectful, thoughtful and engaging when I see him. After the disappointing loss to Strongsville last Friday, John saw me as he was boarding the bus. He was beat up and down but he STILL came over, hugged me and said hi. This is a high character dude and HE should be celebrated. Him saying hi to me made me feel good on a late, muggy, disappointing evening. John Miller: You rock the house!"

"I would like to praise all the teachers who have had to relocate from Wiley and join another Middle School, but specifically the teachers who are now at Monticello and part of the 7th GRADE 'SWAG' TEAM! You really are a pleasure to get to know and professionally speaking, I am learning from your ideas and knowledge. Thank you, and I am sure the moving and adjusting to a new environment wasn't 'easy.' You handled it and are moving forward as excellent teachers do when presented with challenges out of their control."
