Students Create Silent Movies

Students Create Silent Movies

May 12, 2016 -- A trip to the Cleveland International Film Festival this spring inspired the students in the Video Production 1 and 2 classes to create three short silent movies.

“Silent movies strongly require the creators to focus on storytelling, images body language, gestures and not depend on dialogue to get the message across,” said Digital Video Production teacher Cynthia Booker.

The films, Why Me, Friendless and Where Are My Shoes? were produced, performed and edited by students in both classes with some assistance from student actors outside the classes.

Where Are My Shoes, by Senior Stephon Spencer

A student is preparing to get dressed for Track and Field practice, but she can’t find her shoes. She looks everywhere in the classroom and eventually finds them in a surprising location. She is happy! After preparing for practice, she walks out of the locker room and bumps into another person – love at first sight. The new love is wearing the same shoes - maybe shoes bring love?

Friendless by Digital Video Production 1 class

A new student to the school is trying to make friends. He doesn't realize that some students are up to no good. They fool him into doing an “initiation." The new student gets angry because he's been tricked. Two other students who he thought were his friends were also no good for him. The moral of the story - carefully choose your friends.

Why Me?! by Senior Christen Hunter

Have you ever been unprepared for something? For instance, a test? The character in this silent film completely forgot that she had to take a test! She scrambles to study to get in as much information as possible. Did she pass her test? Does she run and hide? Sleep through the whole thing? Or does she face her greatest enemy with confidence?
