RMS Makes State Tournament

Cleveland Heights/University Heights Middle School students recently took part in the Regional Science Olympiad competition at Case Western Reserve University on February 21, 2015. The Tournament featured 25 local schools, including the reigning National Champions. Roxboro’s A team placed a respectable 8th place, thus earning a spot at the state tournament April 11th in Columbus, Ohio at The Ohio State University. This will be the fourth trip to the state tournament for Roxboro Middle School. Roxboro’s B team did very well also, earning many accolades from their peers.

Science Olympiad provides students with the opportunity to participate in one of the premiere science competitions in the nation. The program provides rigorous, standards-based, challenges to nearly 6,200 teams in 50 states. Science Olympiad’s ever-changing event lineup provides an introduction to a variety of career choices and exposure to practicing scientists and mentors.   With a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focus, Science Olympiad affords the participants a great opportunity for exposure to an ever changing science landscape in a global society.   The following students competed in 23 events ranging from tested events such as Crave the Wave and Solar System to build events such as Bridges and Wheeled Vehicle.

Prior to the Regional Tournament, the students also participated in the Solon Invitational on January 31, 2015 where they garnered valuable experience and confidence that led to this accomplishment! It truly would not have been possible if was not for the support of the entire Science Olympiad class. Coaches John Powaski and Janet Lechleitner are very proud of all our Science Olympiad students!
