CH-UH Statement on Transgender Legislation

CH-UH City School District

March 1, 2017 -- Amidst the current national debate about transgender rights, specifically legislation that guided public schools in supporting transgender students, the CH-UH City School District remains steadfast in its commitment to be inclusive and supportive of all its students. The District will ensure that our school buildings are free from discrimination and harassment based on a student's transgender status.

With regard to transgender students in the CH-UH City School District, we work through a collaborative process with our staff and the families and students in order to serve the needs of all students.

While respecting all students' privacy, we will assist students with their individual needs in accordance with state and federal laws. We will continue to ensure that all of our students are in safe, supported and secure environments to enable them to excel in their education.

The CH-UH Board of Education has a specific policy addressing discrimination of students, including those with a transgender identity. Policy #2260 states:

“Any form of discrimination or harassment can be devastating to an individual's academic progress, social relationship and/or personal sense of self-worth. As such, the Board of Education does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation or transgender identity), disability, age (except as authorized by law), religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information in its educational programs or activities.”

Should you have further questions or concerns, please contact the CH-UH Department of Student Services at (216) 371-7435.
