Sept. 23, 2019 -- (Sept. 20 story updated with contest results) Kristen Lyons, a senior at Heights High, is the winner of the Shining Star CLE contest that took place on September 22 at Playhouse Square. Kristen will receive a $10,000 scholarship and the district’s music department will receive $2,500.

 

Shining Star CLE is a solo singing competition for Northeast Ohio high school students. The program is presented by Montefiore, a senior living facility with campuses in Cuyahoga and Geauga County. The goal of the competition is to raise funds for Montefiore’s memory care programs, while at the same time, give back to the community.

 

In an interview with Channel 3 WKYC, Kristen explained why the organization's mission is personal. "My grandma just passed away two years ago from dementia and she didn't remember my name but she remembered the sound of my voice."

 

Heights High graduate Malcolm White ('18) was a finalist in the 2017 Shining Star CLE.
