District Nurses Can Assist With Broken or Lost Glasses

Nov. 6, 2019 -- Most students who wear glasses have lost or broken at least one pair in their lifetime. When this happens, parents have to find the time and the money to purchase a replacement pair of glasses. This unfortunately forces students to go days, weeks, or even months without being able to properly see, making it much harder for them to learn during the school day. District nurse Cindy Rocco wants parents to know that the school nurses are available to assist with this problem, “we want them to see because we want them to learn.”

School nurses in every CH-UH school building have connections with multiple agencies that can repair or replace eyeglasses for students in any of our Pre-K through 12th grade programs. “They don't often think of us for this” says Rocco, who splits her time between Fairfax, Oxford, and Monticello. “We should be the first place students come when they lose or break their glasses,” regardless of whether or not the family has vision insurance.

The district also provides an annual vision and hearing screening to all new and current students. Any teacher or parent can request additional screening for their student if they suspect a problem.
