Jan. 24, 2020 -- The Heights High Robotics Team will host their first regional VEX Robotics event, the Tower Takeover Competition on Saturday, January 25, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the competition gym.

Fifty high schools from northeast Ohio will send teams to vie for awards in several categories: design, build, excellence and driving skill.

Forty students from Heights High will participate on six teams.

Each team of four to eight members designs, programs, builds, and drives a robot that works to stack and place blocks on a 12 ‘ x 12’ field. Two teams compete on each field to perform specific tasks within two minutes.

This is the second year that the school has participated in the VEX program. The Robotics team participated in Battle Bots for several years and placed first in the region.

Greg Nachman, adviser of the robotics club and math and engineering teacher at Heights High, is excited about the competition.

“The students have been working very hard on their robots and are looking forward to competing,” he said. “And, our parent and community volunteers are working just as hard to make this event a success,” he continued.
