Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - August 25, 2020

August 25, 2020

Dear CH-UH Families,

We’re now just one week and one day away from the first day of school. I’m sharing some important District updates that will help you and your students get ready to start the 2020-2021 school year.

School meal distribution for remote learning
Beginning Monday, August 31, our food service department will make the switch from summer meals to the remote learning meal distribution. Meals are still free to all CH-UH students. View the flyer here.

Pickup will be available at Roxboro Middle School and each elementary school (with the exception of Roxboro Elementary) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch for Monday & Tuesday can be picked up on Monday, and both meals for Wednesday through Friday can be picked up on Wednesday.

Pickup will be available at Monticello Middle School each weekday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and at Heights High each weekday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Multiple-day meal pick-up will be available as an option at all locations. Students and families can pick up meals at any of the available locations.

This plan was informed by the school meals survey shared with families over the last two weeks. The survey received nearly 1,700 responses.

Evening Chromebook distribution August 27
The District is providing a Chromebook to every kindergarten through 12th grade student before the school year begins. An additional evening pickup has been scheduled for Thursday, August 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heights High. We ask that attendees please wear a mask for their own safety and the safety of our staff. More details about Chromebook pickup are here.

Orientation & Curriculum Night events
Each school is in the process of sending “welcome back” letters to each family via paper mail and email. Each school is planning various events for families to meet their teachers and learn about the curricular expectations for the year. These messages contain specific sign-up and logistical information for your child’s school(s).

Class schedules for all students will also be posted to Infinite Campus by tomorrow, August 26.

Virtual Family Cafes
We’re wrapping up our first-ever Virtual Family Cafe series this week. I have learned so much from our sessions thus far, and I thank our participants for their invaluable feedback and for the candid conversations. I have been bringing this information back to our leadership and planning committees so it can inform our plans moving forward.

There’s still time to register for an upcoming session. The cafes are facilitated using the World Cafe style, which is centered around a welcoming set-up with smaller group conversations.

You can always find the latest news and updates on our reopening page at CHUH.org.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Liz Kirby
