Yahel Hill Breaks School Scoring Record

Teammates congratulate Heights High's Yahel Hill

Feb. 2, 2018 -- Heights High senior Yahel Hill broke the school’s boys basketball career scoring record in the Tigers’ 79-77 win at Lutheran East on Tuesday.

Hill needed just 15 points to break the previous record of 1,470 set by Damon Stringer (‘95). He finished with 20 points on the night and was recognized on court after passing Stringer’s record.

Hill is a candidate for Ohio’s prestigious Mr. Basketball award, an honor that Stringer won as a senior at Heights High in 1995.

Hill is considering a number of Division I college scholarship offers to play basketball, but he also excels in the classroom. He is in the Exercise Science Career Tech program and also takes College Credit Plus, AP, and Honors courses at Heights High.

Hill has propelled the Tigers to a stellar season thus far, as Heights is 10-6 overall and a perfect 7-0 in Lake Erie League action. The Tigers, ranked No. 14 in Northeast Ohio by Cleveland.com, host LEL rival Maple Heights tonight at 7:30 p.m.
