Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - May 31, 2021

May 31, 2021

Dear CH-UH Families,

This past week was a flurry of end-of-school activities, from Heights High’s senior prom last Saturday to the Rox Mid 8th Grade Farewell Thursday evening. I’m looking forward to Monticello’s 8th grade celebration later in the week, and of course, Heights High’s graduation ceremony on June 3. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

Remember to tune in to the District’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 2 at 6 p.m. for our Staff Awards Ceremony. We will announce our overall Teacher, Helping Hand and Administrator of the Year and celebrate our building level winners.

End of Year survey for families
To help plan for the 21-22 school year and gather feedback to reflect on this school year, I invite you to take the District’s End of Year Survey for 20-21 via the link below.

Family Survey

In preparation for next year, I have been reviewing and discussing COVID-19 trends with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and have consulted with our district Reopening Advisory Committee. I will recommend to the Board of Education during our June 8 meeting that we offer both a 5-day in-person learning model as well as a fully remote model for the 2021-2022 school year at all grade levels. I will not recommend that we offer a concurrent model. Focusing our instructional model options will be the best course of action for our students, families, and educators. We will continue to use the guidelines from the Board of Health to inform our safety protocols. A committee has convened to plan the fully remote model and details on that model will be shared after the model is finalized.

Summer reading & online “boost” resources
The CH-UH School District and Heights Libraries are working together this summer to encourage all families to have fun reading! Take a look at this information on the Heights Libraries’ prize giveaway and the District’s suggested reading lists for all grade levels.

The Curriculum & Instruction team has been working on a rich online Summer Boost program for students; details can be found on this flyer. Your child can use their district Chromebook or personal computer/tablet to access these resources through Clever.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of May 24
Since Monday, May 17, we have received reports of zero staff members and two students testing positive for COVID-19. Positive cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. On May 27, the Ohio Department of Health announced the cancellation, effective immediately, of the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The ODH will continue to share COVID-19 case and vaccination data daily at coronavirus.ohio.gov.

During this long weekend, I am thinking of the many U.S. military service members who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we cherish today. I hope you are enjoying the Memorial Day weekend with loved ones, and are excited for a successful final week of the 2020-2021 school year.

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
