Heights DECA Members Qualify to Compete at State Level

Jan. 31, 2024 -- Cleveland Heights High School Marketing Management/DECA juniors and seniors competed in the District 8 DECA winter competitions at Mentor High School on January 25, 2024.

The Marketing Management Career Tech students were eight of over 350 DECA members that represented ten schools to compete for the chance to advance to the State of Ohio DECA competitions in Columbus on March 8 and 9.

Senior Amari Chandler placed 2nd and senior Miyonne Alston-Bey placed 3rd in the competition area of Restaurant and Food Service Management. Juniors Da’Myah Blade, Ahava Ellis, and Asenath King placed 2nd in the Integrated Marketing Campaign – Service Team event.

“All of the DECA members competed extremely well,” said Sarah Parker, the Marketing Management CTE teacher and DECA advisor. “And all will have a chance to compete at the State of Ohio DECA competitions.”

This year’s National DECA Conference will be held in Anaheim, California from April 26 through May 1.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA's industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA's flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA's competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.
