Aug. 10, 2022 -- Two years after the initial launch of the Build the Bridge program, Spectrum News 1 checked in with the Heights High football coaching staff to report on the progress of the initiative. Build the Bridge, which is the brainchild of Offensive Coordinator Kahari Hicks, created the unique opportunity for willing football teams across Ohio to be paired together to break down racial stereotypes through a day of football, thoughtful activities and conversation.

“We need to bring together kids who don’t look like each other,” says Coach Hicks, “kids that aren’t from the same community, different socioeconomic classes, different races, different religions and get them to hangout. And when they hangout, they’ll start to recognize that they like a lot of the same things.“
