CHHS Students Enter Song Writing Competition

Students recording their song for the Youth Sing Out competition

Nov. 19, 2015 -- Seniors in Donna Feldman’s and Judy Goral/Liz Spaulding's English 4 classes wrote and will perform a song for the Youth Sing Out Competition.

The recording sessions took place on Nov. 18 after four songwriting workshops hosted by Roots of American Music, Kevin Richards is the musician/song writer and Brian Straw is the Recording Engineer.

The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage sponsors the competition and provided a grant that funded a visit to the Maltz Museum and the song writing workshops.

The theme of the song is diversity and tolerance.

The student recording will be entered in the competition that includes 24 high school classes from schools in northeast Ohio. The winning group will perform at the April Stop the Hate Essay contest awards ceremony at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Last year, Dr. Feldman’s students won the competition and were awarded $3,000 for anti-bias curriculum at the school.

The Stop the Hate Essay Contest prizes include up to $40,000 in a college scholarship for juniors and seniors and cash prizes for students in grades 6-10.
