RoxArts Derby Day is May 7

RoxArts Derby Day is May 7

April 5, 2016 -- The arts have been a top priority at Roxboro Elementary and Roxboro Middle School since 1981, thanks to the parent fundraising group RoxArts (formerly known as the Roxboro Enrichment Arts Program). RoxArts is planning its annual adult benefit to raise money for artists-in-residence, field trips, assemblies and special projects that enhance the education of all K through 8 students in both buildings.

Funded projects include, but are not limited to, the Science of Sound for fifth graders, Shen Yun Chinese dancers, and professional reenactments of black history and women’s history during all-school assemblies. At the middle school level, RoxArts has helped fund an all-school annual Jazz Week, new equipment for the music and drama programs, and an eighth grade field trip to Violins of Hope.

The organization is excited to invite the community and especially all elementary and middle school parents to attend the Derby Day benefit on Saturday, May 7 at the B Side Barcade and Lounge on Coventry. The Kentucky Derby-style party will feature catered food from the Butcher and the Brewer, The Fairmount, Forest Hill Kitchen and Euro USA plus beer, wine, a bourbon tasting and fabulous auction. A VIP event begins at 5:30 with signature cocktails and live betting during the Kentucky Derby, with the regular party starting at 6:30 p.m.

The event is planned by a team of parents from both buildings and is chaired by Rosemary Pierce, Jennifer Young and Kathy Simkoff Blackman. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting roxarts.org. If you’d like to donate an item for the auction, please contact Rosemary Pierce at [email protected].

So find that fancy, feathered hat and join the fun on May 7 to support arts enrichment in our schools.
