Academic Enrichment

This free Advanced Placement camp is for any student looking to strengthen their skills, routines and habits prior to taking an AP course in the fall. Some of the topics that will be discussed include maximizing time management, developing a note-taking system, forming an effective study group and developing high-level questions through critical reading and writing.
 
Registration runs through June 20. All participants will be confirmed through email and/or a phone call once registration closes. For more information on the program, contact Leticia Maldonado in Educational Services, 216-320-2033.

Cleveland Museum of Art Summer Teen CO•OP
Interested in communications and art? The Cleveland Art Museum’s Teen CO•OP summer experience.

The group of Cleveland area teens like to make and enjoy art. The group works on projects like the teen guide, gallery programming, short videos, and events for other teens. Time commitment: July 25–August 5, 2016 and participation in monthly Second Sunday family days from August 14, 2016 - May 14, 2017.

High school students currently in grades 9–11 are invited to apply, deadline is June 1, 2016. Preference will be given to teens with exceptional communication skills.

Noble's Summer School Program

Mondays – Thursdays

Incoming Kindergarteners – I’m Going to Kindergarten Summer School – focus on language – students have to be registered and enrolled in district to receive application. This can only take place at Delisle. Applications can be completed during registration and will be sent to Noble, or parents can complete the application at a later date and return it to the school themselves.

Kindergarten Going to First Grade Summer School – focus on ELA – 20 students were invited based on academic need – students have received applications and are currently returning them to Mrs. Coleman at the building. Parents whose students were not invited, but are interested in the program, can contact the school to see if their child is eligible to participate.

First Going to Second Grade Summer School – focus on ELA – 20 students were invited based on academic need – students have received applications and are currently returning them to me at the building. Parents whose students were not invited, but are interested in the program, can contact the school to see if their child is eligible to participate.

Second Going to Third Grade Summer School – focus on ELA – 20 students were invited based on academic need – students have received applications and are currently returning them to me at the building. Parents whose students were not invited, but are interested in the program, can contact the school to see if their child is eligible to participate.

Athletics

The Heights High Girls Basketball program will host a summer basketball camp for girls in grades K-8, June 13-16 and June 20-23 at Heights High in University Heights. The Director is Karen Battle, Heights High Girls Basketball Coach. The camp fee is $60 or $30 per week. Registration is by mail or at the in-person sign up days on May 18 & 26, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Cleveland Heights Recreation Center. 
 
Heights United Soccer Academy (HUSA) is now accepting registrations for the 2016 Summer Session held at Oxford Elementary School beginning June 20. HUSA is directed by CH-UH teacher Sean Sullivan. Coach Sullivan is currently the Science and Engineering Specialist at Gearity and the Director of Coaching of the Cleveland Heights Recreational Soccer Program.

Community

Camp Whitewood is a non-profit residential and day camp located in Windsor, OH. The camp offers opportunities for children 6-18 to continue individual and social growth and development while they are away from school. It is the camp's objective to offer quality programming in a natural setting where such growth may occur.
A free after school and summer program for middle and high school level students (minimum age 12), a joint program of the Cleveland Metroparks at the West Creek Reservation and Case Western Reserve University's Leonard Gelfand STEM Center. Self - motivated participants will engage in real science with the guidance of experts, collecting and analyzing environmental data, and monitoring the abundance and distribution of amphibians and reptiles at West Creek.
Inspired by the research and exploration of Dr. Robert Ballard, finder of the wreckage of the Titanic, Shipwreck Camp will engage campers in field science and exploration. Youth ages 12-15 participate in an expedition to find shipwrecks in Lake Erie.
Creative expression camps for summer 2016 include comics, puppetry, playwriting, hip hop and more. Scholarships and sibling discounts are available.
Many music camps available for students K-12; experienced musicians and novice, vocal and instrumental.
Cuyahoga Youth in Agriculture: Food for Thought, Food for the Future. A free week-long day camp for 6th-8th graders in Cuyahoga County, June 20-25 from 9:30am-2:00pm. Youth will find out where their food comes from and get their hands dirty with gardening and environmental activities! Location: 5320 Stanard Ave., Cleveland, OH 44103
Elementary and middle school instrumental music students (grades 5-8) who live in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school district are invited to spend a fun-filled week exploring music at the Reaching Heights Summer Music Camp. Tuition assistance is available.

Employment Openings

Heights Libraries - Teen Tech Ambassador Program, Summer Internship (paid) 

This summer, Heights Libraries will offer two paid ($1,500) internships to local high school students in the area of digital literacy education. The program includes a general orientation to the library, various learning opportunities, and hands-on experiential activities. Specifically, the interns will shadow staff in the computer/multi-media labs and observe computer classes. By the end of the program, interns will demonstrate what they have learned by co-teaching at least one computer class. The deadline to apply is May 13.

Summer jobs in many different kinds of businesses and internships for students 14-24 years old in the Cleveland area. The deadline is May 2.

Summer School

Summer school courses are available for students currently enrolled in grades 6 through 12.
 
SUMMER SCHOOL CURRICULUM: The Middle School courses offered during summer school are delivered through face-to-face instruction. The High School courses offered in summer school utilize a “blended learning” approach. This style offers self-paced computer instruction supported by academic and support staff. Students will be provided with computers to use during class.
LENGTH OF SESSION: Middle School classes will run for 4 weeks, from June 20- July 15. High School classes will run for 5 weeks from June 20- July 22. There will be no classes on Monday July 4, 2016.
TUITION: Middle School tuition is $50 per class. High School tuition is $100 per class. Tuition includes most course materials. Students are typically required to provide general school supplies as required by the teacher (i.e. pens, pencils, paper, notebook, etc.).

Registration closes June 16, 2016.

Volunteer Openings

Summer Youth Volunteer Program at University Hospital

For students age 15 to graduation, 3-4 hours a week. The purpose of the program is to empower teens with leadership and communication skills and provide them with exposure to the hospital environment, while contributing to the community.

Junior Ambassador Summer Volunteer Program for Teens at Cleveland Clinic

For students 15-18 years old with a GPA of 3.0 or above, a minimum of 75 hours required during six weeks of the summer. Junior Ambassadors: develop skills, experience a world-class hospital, observe caring professionals, make a difference and compete for college scholarships.
