CHUH Statement On Transgender Students

May 20, 2016

The U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Education recently released joint guidance addressing how schools should support transgender students to ensure that school buildings are free from discrimination and harassment based on a student's transgender status.

Due to student privacy laws the District is unable to inform you about the number of transgender students within a building and/or the school district. However, please know that the District adheres to all state and federal laws and guidelines.

With regard to transgender students in the Cleveland Heights – University Heights City School District, we work through a collaborative process with our staff and the families and students in order to serve the needs of all students.

While respecting all students' privacy, we will assist students with their individual needs in accordance with state and federal laws. We will continue to ensure that all of our students are in safe, supported and secure environments to enable them to excel in their education.

Should you have further questions or concerns regarding this joint guidance from the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Education, please contact the CH-UH Department of Student Services at (216) 371-7435.
