Board of Education Meeting Summary - February 6, 2024

Feb. 12, 2024 -- At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on February 6, Heights High students shared happenings at the school, the Curriculum & Instruction team presented recommendations for new K-12 math materials, and the Board voted to approve the Academic Calendars for the next two school years.

Meeting Overview
  • Several of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. essay, poetry, and poster contest winners shared their submissions. Students read excerpts of their written works or described their posters.
  • Heights High School junior Joziah Wyley and sophomore Eniya Lockhart delivered the Superintendent’s Student Cadre Report, sharing updates on Heights High news and personal reflections on the school year.
  • The Board voted to approve the Academic Calendars for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.
  • Director of Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Michael Jenkins and Joyce Bukovac, Instructional Specialist for Math, presented the District’s recommendation for adoption of new K-12 math curricular materials.
  • Superintendent Kirby shared updates on the past month’s work within the five goals of the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Chief Financial Officer Scott Gainer delivered his “3 Things” report, a monthly initiative to educate the community on school funding. The 3 Things for February were:
